Vancouver Dream-Pop Singer Caitlin Goulet Releases Debut Album, “Inside Thoughts”

Posted on July 10, 2021July 10, 2021

Vancouver, BC, Canada – Métis Canadian singer/songwriter Caitlin Goulet’s first album comes out July 9th, 2021.

CBC Reclaimed host Jarrett Martineau described Caitlin as, “One of my favourite new artists from the West Coast underground. Her music has a very special kind of magic.”

Besides CBC, her songs have been played on public and college radio stations such as CFBX The X and CITR Radio Vancouver, as well as international internet radio stations.

“This project has been a long time coming,” Caitlin says. “A lot of lessons, growth, pain, joy, and fun went into it. I started facing my trauma from past experiences while creating this album. It helped me move through it. I also got actual therapy.”

The album was recorded in Vancouver with producer/composer/musician Van Ber (Evan Berndt). Co-writers include rising Indigiqueer pop artist Nimkish, 2SLGBTQ+ pop artist Mac Ramsay, Indigenous singer-songwriter Taryn Laronge, and Jamaican-Canadian rapper Marzzybaby, who appears on the 7th track, “Love It.”

“In sharing my experience through these songs,” states Caitlin. “I want my listeners to feel seen and know that they are not alone. We all get messed up sometimes. And that’s okay.”

This theme runs its course of discovery, turmoil, acceptance, and celebration throughout “Inside Thoughts.” It is the intimate confessional of a sad-girl gone bad-girl who’s bossing up and healing.

Raw, conversational and unapologetic lyrics are channeled through a dynamic and magnetic voice. The result is Caitlin’s signature lush and imaginative vocal layering, paired with Van Ber’s glimmering and emotive synths.

Listeners have likened Caitlin Goulet’s alt-pop, dream-pop, and alternative R&B stylings to Banks, FKA Twigs, Solange, Kate Bush, Lana Del Rey, Tei Shi, Kelela, Aaliyah and Brandy.

“Caitlin Goulet writes songs that are like dreams you can get lost in,” said CBC Reclaimed host Jarrett Martineau. “They feel like clouds moving through your body or sound taking over your spirit.”

“Besides “Dive Deep”, the album features the previous singles, such as “Fun N’ Games” and “Crazy, Crazy,” and does an incredible job bringing them together into a cohesive and breathtaking narrative. “Inside Thoughts” is equally reflective and self-aware, as danceable and tasteful.” – Nataliya Kiyan, founder of soundscraper.ca.
